By Robby & Sherman Wilkens
We are entering May and our great summer weather is emerging. This weekend, Great Valley’s “Ya Gotta Regatta” will be the dominant FUN producing event for our neighborhood. Floating crafts of all shapes and sizes manned by contestants from several states and Canada will be launched in The Great Valley Creek creating the focal point of this wildly FUN weekend event. For more information check with The Great Valley Fire Department’s web site for this event at www.yagottaregatta.com.
The other FUN STUFF happening in and around Ellicottville will is also intensifying, such as golf and other outdoor happenings. The golf conditions at both Holiday Valley and Elkdale Country Club are in quite good shape. Call either location for a T time, then get out and enjoy the FUN that a round of golf brings to those that play.
Our weekly line up of music and other FUN stuff, beginning Friday May 4, 2012 and continuing through Thursday May 10, 2012 will, besides The Ya Gotta Regatta, include seven Bands, at least two DJ’s, a couple of Sound System Music Events plus all of the excellent food and drink specials offered by our wonderful clubs and restaurants.
As was mentioned earlier, this weekend will feature “The Ya Gotta Regatta” taking place in Great Valley. Participants will be arriving Friday evening with the Regatta Races happening on Saturday.
Madigans will have their normal Sound System Music Happenin going on. It will begin Friday around 7:00 PM with Madigans Party Favorites taking place till around 10:00 PM when Club Madigans takes over increasing the FUN & GOOD TIMES till close. This will be an all week event that will fit in and around, weather permitting, the opening of Madigans Up-Stairs, Outdoor, Patio & Party Bar.
Friday will have two band gigs. The first will be “The A List” doing a 7:00 PM Friday show in Balloons. This is a veteran band from Niagara Falls, which has played here a few times during the past year or so. They are a five-piece classic to pop to southern rock band playing cover tunes from the last sixty years in a style similar to the original artists. Their tune inventory includes every thing from KC & The Sunshine Band to Skynyrd, Dobie Gray to Steely Dan, Rod Stewart to Journey and many more. The Balloons Shows they have done before have been wonderful. So get ready for more music GOOD TIMES this Friday. Following “The A List”, “Personable DJ John Barry” will be in Balloons Sound & Light Booth taking over the party already in place with his really FUN, LIVE “Personality Show Off Show”. John’s show, as always, will include a neat danceable selection of tunes and good Party-Time FUN till close.
Then at 9:00 PM Friday, “Roll The Dice” will be ROCKIN The PUB in Great Valley with another really FUN music show. As most of us know, this is a retro to classic rock band that includes Ellicottville’s Freddie Joseph. Their music consists of most everything from The Rock A Billy era through the eighties and also includes a bit of a country sound. They are FUN and will create another Super Friday Music Night in The PUB for all of The Ya Gotta Regatta players.
Moving to Saturday where we usually begin in Balloons. This Saturday Balloons will be closed for a private party from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Then DJ Chatty or Flakey Frank Watson will take over from Balloon Sound & Light Booth till close.
Therefore our band music will begin at 9:00 PM, when “Live & Kickin” will be set up and doing their “Live Music for all Occasions” gig in The Gin Mill. This is a three-piece party and good time rock band that is a Gin Mill regular band. They play to the desires of their audience and really create a good party time. Their main focus, as we all know, is classic rock. However, depending on the desires of The Gin Mill Crowd, they may venture into other venues. For sure, it will be a good time in The Gin Mill this Saturday night. Also don’t forget The Gin Mill serves their very fine, yet reasonably priced, menu till midnight on weekends.
Also at 9:00 PM Saturday, The PUB in Great Valley will be hosting another really FUN music night with a performance by “Bad Influence”. As it was a few weeks ago, this is “The Bad Influence Band” from Salamanca that is new to our music scene. What we know of them is they bill themselves as Rock and Party Band that enjoys playing locally. Being The PUB is local; all those attending will enjoy the good Party Time that “Bad Influence” creates this Saturday night.
After another Quiet Sunday, we stroll to Monday, which again will be a single band night. However, we will have the return of The Gin Mill’s “All U Can Eat Spaghetti and Garlic Toast” dinner special for only $6.99 on Mondays. This truly excellent dinner special also includes a one-time salad with the dressing of your choice. Also remember The Gin Mill’s “Summer Of Fun Food and Drink Specials” will still be happening. These Gin Mill Happy Hour Specials will be served at very reduced prices from 4:00 PM till 7:00 PM every Monday through Friday, as we said, till summers end.
Moving around the corner to Balloons, where Mike Brady will be hosting their music, pizza and twenty-five cent wing Monday Night Special. The music will come from Balloons Sound & Light System. So stop in Balloons this Monday, say “Hi Mike”. Then enjoy the FUN, music, pizza and excellent twenty-five cent wings.
Monday’s band gig will be Madigans Church On Monday, beginning at 10:00 PM Sharp. The Reverend Jack DarZaFasette, the creator of this All Original Music Spectacle, that occasionally will include other local music characters, will be doing this FUN and entertaining show in Madigans again this Monday. One more thing, Reverend DarZaFasette, in an exclusive interview, has confirmed the acoustic duo we have spoken about recently is about to go public. The venue, where this will happen, is still uncertain.
Moving to Wednesday at 8:00 PM, The Gin Mill, as always, will have Joe Wagner and John Winston doing their over twenty-five year Wednesday tradition of wonderful sixties through the eighties folk to southern rock acoustic tunes. As we say most every week, this Gin Mill Tradition is one of the best and most FUN music nights in Ellicottville. So stop by The Gin Mill, enjoy some excellent wings and the great music performed by Joe and John. Some times others will join in. You never know how much FUN Wednesday night in The Gin Mill will be till you check it out yourself.
Thursday our music rounds out for the week at 8:00 PM with “The Weekly Notice Band” ROCKIN The Gin Mill. This week’s version will again be “The FAR OUT Band”. Which, as we know, is The Freddie And RT Outstanding Band. So, as we always say, Brian or RT or maybe both will join Freddie, making “The Weekly or Moments Notice Band” a Unique and FUN Gin Mill Music Experience this and every Thursday. This Thursday will be more of the same and that is a very good thing.
