Checking Out The Tunes & Other Stuff in Ellicottville

After one of the most perfect, weather wise, Memorial Day Weekends we have had here in Ellicottville, we enter the month of June looking forward to a super start to summer. The Holiday Valley Pool Complex is open and available to the public. This is a really neat way to relax on a beautiful sunny afternoon. If you wish golf, both Holiday Valley’s Double Black Diamond Course and Elkdale Country Club are in true mid-season form. Therefore call the location of your choice then get out and enjoy the good-golf-times both locations offer.

The music and other FUN STUFF is also holding up quite well. For the week beginning Friday June 1, 2012 and running through Thursday June 7, 2012, we will have eight Bands, two DJ’s, at least two Sound System Music Events plus all the food and beverage specials offered by the neat clubs and restaurants here in The Ellicottville area.

Like most weeks, we begin with The Sound System Music Event happening in Madigans. That being Madigans Party Favorites which are played through their Sound System till about 10:00 PM. Then Club Madigans takes over greatly increasing the FUN & GOOD TIMES till close. Also remember, weather permitting, Madigans Upstairs Party & Outdoor Patio Bar will also be open for us all to enjoy.

Another quick note, The PUB in Great Valley will again be Live Music Free this week. However, their local friendly ambiance and very reasonably priced food and drinks will still be available to all. So stop by The Pub and enjoy the local good times.

Our Village Music Parade starts rolling at 7:00 PM Friday in Balloons with “10 Delaware”, a cover classic rock band playing tunes from the last thirty years or so. This four-piece band has played here in Ellicottville several times during this past year. Their music is very danceable and wonderful listening. Chris Pusateri, one of the driving forces of “10 Delaware” is the brother of Frank Pusateri of “Only Humen”. So as you can see, good music and FUN TIMES run in the family. Following “10 Delaware”, “Personable DJ John Barry” will take over the festivities doing his thing. That being, his really FUN, LIVE Personality Show Off Show. John will do this show from Balloons Sound Booth. Like always, John’s show will includes a neat danceable selection of tunes and good Party-Time Chitter-Chatter till close.

Returning to 9:00 PM Friday “RT Live” will be WOWING The Gin Mill Crowd with his acoustic version of many classics to country rock tunes. RT is also part of “The Weekly Notice Band” that does such a great job in The Gin Mill on Thursdays. He will be a solo act for this show and as he has done in the past, create a FUN acoustic Gin Mill Music Night. For those of you who enjoy an excellent fish fry or late night meal, The Gin Mill is the place, because they serve their wonderful, yet reasonably priced, menu till midnight on weekends.

Saturday, the music kicks of at 6:00 PM in Balloons with “The Theresa Quinn Trio. Theresa, an innovative pianist, vocalist and songwriter, will be performing with well-known Buffalo guitarist Mark Winsick and Tom Brown. This trio will offer an eclectic mix of Blues-influenced originals as well as interpretations of noteworthy Blues, Rock and R&B standards. Theresa has also performed in Balloons for Women’s Weekend with another band “Girls Gone Mild”. Which was a wonderful and really FUN show. For sure, Balloons will be ROCKEN this Saturday. Following The Theresa Quinn Trio, a bus from “The Disoriented DJ Home” will arrive with “Ellicottville’s Original Party Monster”, “DJ. Flakey Frank Watson” on board. The driver will make sure Frank has all of his marbles in place and is totally functional in his usual very friendly & FUN way, so he may continue the Balloons Party in place till close.

Again, we return to 9:00 PM Saturday for another really FUN music night in The Gin Mill featuring the music of “The Joe Wagner Band”. This will be the four-piece version of this great band which will have Gary Boldt on lead guitar and Stuart Shapiro on drums plus Joe Wagner and John Winston. This up-beat and neat sounding version of what we get to hear every Wednesday will still be the wonderful selection of folk to southern rock tunes they do so well. The addition of Gary and Stuart will, as always, create some better dancin and party time sounds for even more Wonderful Gin Mill Good Music Times.

            After another quiet, yet beautiful weather, unwind Sunday, we move on to our regular weekly lineup. As usual we begin on Monday in The Gin Mill with their “All U Can Eat Spaghetti and Garlic Toast Dinner” for only $6.99. This wonderful Gin Mill Meal is a true value, that many Ellicottvilleites, including Big Ray, enjoy every week. This week, however, at 7:00 PM, “Home Made Jam” will be back in The Gin Mill doing their really neat “Country Oldies Pure & Simple Music Show”. As we all know this is a four-piece group featuring our own Liz Boberg on vocals doing some really neat country tunes. Check it out in The Gin Mill this Monday you won’t be disappointed.

Moving around the corner on Monroe Street, Balloons will have their Wonderful Sound &Light System flowing with tunes of their choice. Mike Brady hosts this Monday Night event. Just stop in Balloons, say “Hi Mike”, and enjoy what is happenin.

Then at 10:00 PM sharp on Monday, “Madigans Church on Monday”, Ellicottville’s only “All Original Music Event”, as always, hosted by “The Reverend Jack DarVasetski” also known as “Mr. Da Poleski Da Director of Silliness, Foolishness & General FUN” plus at least one more local music character will be creating & performing the music and FUN times in Madigans till close.

Holiday Valley’s John Harvard Pub will also have Ladies League After Golf Food & Beverage Specials available on Monday.

Tuesday, beginning around 5:00 PM, The Gin Mill, The Barn and The John Harvard Pub will be offering more “After Golf Drink & Dinner Specials”. Therefore, play some golf then enjoy the really excellent specials all three locations have to offer.

The final two gigs of the week will take place in The Gin Mill. First, Wednesday at 8:00 PM, Joe Wagner and John Winston will be doing their wonderful sixties through the eighties folk to southern rock acoustic music show. This is a Gin Mill Tradition of well over twenty years that is one of the best and most FUN music nights in Ellicottville. Also remember The Gin Mills excellent wings are on special every Wednesday.

Finally Thursday at 8:00 PM “The Weekly Notice Band” will be Whoopin Up The Gin Mill. This week’s version will again be “The FAR OUT Band”. Which is The Freddie And RT Outstanding Band. Therefore, as we always say, Brian or RT or maybe both will join Freddie, making “The Weekly or Moments Notice Band” a Unique and FUN Gin Mill Music Experience this and every Thursday.
