As October comes to an end and we enter Halloween Week, the fall colors are brilliant, yet fading fast. We have had a fairly rainy fall. A good example was Fall Fest Weekend. However, this coming weekend and maybe early next week looks OK. So, with the PARTY TIME of Halloween Week happening this and next weekend, you may wish to find a little time to enjoy what is left of golf season. Holiday Valley’s Golf Season will end on Halloween. However, as long as the weather cooperates, Elkdale Country Club will still be up and running until the snow flies. Call either course, make a Tee time, then get out and enjoy what is left of our Great Golf Good Times.
As we usually do, before we talk about the music, here is some info on several music free locations that are very neat places to visit. We begin with Tips Up Cafe, a wonderful restaurant located on Washington Street. That, along with their excellent and well prepared fine dining menu, you will get to experience, what we call, Ellicottville’s local home town service with a Tips Up Cafe Smile. This is a great place to enjoy an excellent dinner as part of a really neat night out on the town.
Then on Monroe Street, The Barn Restaurant, another local and family friendly place, offers great food, especially the Friday Fish Fry, and drink specials along with all ages friendly service. All of this creates an atmosphere that is a FUN Barn Experience.
Just east of Ellicottville, The Birdwalk Restaurant & Antique Shop will also be serving up their great gourmet pizza specials along with a fine dining menu that will have you returning for sure. Also remember, The Birdwalk’s service is great.
Returning to just south of the Village, The Depot will be open their normal hours Friday through Sunday. Their wonderful food and drink specials will be happening along with neat, yet Very Spooky Rock Music, flowing through the sound system.
Now on to music, starting today Friday Oct. 26, 2012 through Thursday Nov. 1, 2012 we will have 8 Bands, 2 DJ’s, and 4 Spooky Halloween Parties taking place in and around Ellicottville creating the Good Times we all enjoy.
We begin this Friday evening at 7:00 PM in Balloons with “The Little Sister Band.”.This all female Rock ‘N Blues quartet has a couple of members most will recognize. First on lead vocals is the Soulful Mistress of the Blues, Kate Engler, who we all remember from “The Kate Engler Blues Band” and Holly Johnson from “Jokers Wild.” They have joined up with Jackie and Kim to create this really Good Rockin Blues quartet that will have Balloons really deep in The Blues this Friday. Following “Little Sister,” “Personable DJ John Barry” will take over from Balloons Sound & Light Booth with his LIVE Personality Show Off Show that will keep Balloons ROCKIN till close.
Returning to 9:00 PM Friday, “RT Live” will be WOWIN The Gin Mill Music Crowd with his acoustic version of many classics to country rock tunes. Like the last week or so, RT might hook up with Freddie on percussion creating more Gin Mill Music FUN. For those of you who enjoy a later meal, especially a great fish fry, remember, The Gin Mill serves their excellent, reasonably priced, menu till midnight on weekends.
Like most weeks, Saturday’s music begins at 6:00 PM in Balloons with “The Black & Blues Band,” a Buffalo based four-piece band that we remember from last May as Buffalo’s finest Blues Funk to Classic Rock & Jam Band. They create a high-energy atmosphere by using a very delicate blend of rhythms and sounds which is unmistakably their own. They played in Balloons twice this past year and really lived up to their billing with an excellent show. Following “The Black & Blues Band”, “DJ Chatty, Friendly and totally Flakey Frank Watson,” will have a Balloons sponsored Party Monster Pass from The Disoriented DJ Home. This will allow his All Ages Friendly and really FUN Party Continuation Show to happen in Balloons Sound & Light Booth till close.
Then at 9:00 PM Saturday, “The Joe Wagner Band” will be in The Gin Mill. This will be the four-piece version of this great band, featuring Gary Boldt on lead guitar and Stuart Shapiro on drums plus Joe Wagner and John Winston. Retro Lil Joey might also join in. As always, with the full band, we will hear a more ROCKIN version of the music we hear on Wednesdays. It will still be the wonderful folk to southern rock tunes they do so well. The addition of Gary and Stuart creates even more Gin Mill FUN Music Times.
Also at 9:00 PM Saturday, Madigans Up-Stairs Haunted Halloween Party will begin. You may wish to show up in costume to be a complete fit in.
The Bills have a bye this Sunday. Therefore, they won’t be able to throw away another game. So we just kick back, enjoy the quiet time and move on to Monday.
We begin in The Gin Mill at 6:00 PM, with their “All U Can Eat Spaghetti Dinner” for only $6.99. Adding to The Gin Mill FUN will be “Connor the Crash Dummy.” Besides being on bar duty, Connor will be playing his neat version of classic country tunes through the sound system for everyone to enjoy.
Monday rounds out at 10:00 PM Sharp with Madigans Church on Monday. Reverend Jack accompanied by Deacon Dan will have the house BOPPIN & ROCKIN to the beat of their original Honky Tonk to Rock-A-Billy tunes. Another neat addition just might be Freddie on Percussion. Thereby extending Madigans Weekend FUN.
Wednesday being Halloween, the FUN will be enhanced by two bands. First as always at 8:00 PM, The Gin Mill will have Joe Wagner, John Winston doing their traditional Folk to Southern Rock Acoustic Halloween night of Music. Just maybe Freddie and Retro Lil Joey will join in helping them create an even better Gin Mill Wednesday Night of Music. Don’t forget to show up in costume.
Also at 8:00 PM Wednesday, Balloons will have their Halloween Party roaring with “The Lustre Kings,” a very hi-energy four-piece Rock a Billy Band from Albany that was here last June. They have a soulful, greasy, All-American sound that is hard to resist. They will, for sure, keep Balloons Halloween Party going all evening long.
The PUB in Great Valley will also have their “Haunted Halloween Experience” happening this Wednesday. So stop in The PUB to enjoy their Local FUN Times.
The week becomes complete at 8:00 PM Thursday in The Gin Mill with “Freddie & Friends” doing their weekly version of what used to be the Weekly Notice Band. The music will be Classic to Country Rock. Just who will be performing won’t be known until they start the gig. What we know for sure, Thursday The Gin Mill will be ROCKIN.
