Built in 1926, Gowanda’s Hollywood Theater has been the venue for countless movies, live stage shows and concerts, but time eventually took its toll and the theatre closed in 1992. In the mid-1990s, a grassroots organization formed to raise funds to restore the theater to its original splendor.
Then called The Harley Happening at the Hollywood, the Happening began in 1999 as a one-day local fundraising event and has grown into a three-day rally that is one of the largest motorcycle events in the region and attracts enthusiasts from all across the U.S. and Canada. The Happening’s planning and execution was led by Randy Rosen with Gowanda Harley-Davidson® and the Gernatt companies as major sponsors. In 2007, the Happening’s organization was turned over to the Gowanda’s Historic Hollywood Theater Ltd. Under its direction, the event has seen tremendous growth and progress.
