Prepare your taste buds for a culinary exploration of the Mediterranean on July 11, when Tips Up owner and chef, Anton Roush, and E’ville Spirits & Wines owner, Shannon Carscallen, team up to bring you an evening of tapas-style gourmet food and wine pairing.
The first of a series of four tapas journeys will feature “small plates with elaborate preparations of meals from the Mediterranean region,” said Roush. Each event will highlight foods and wines from different regions of the world.
When Carscallen approached him about doing these events, Roush knew they could put an interesting twist on their pairings. He and Carscallen have worked very closely on menu selections and the perfect complement of wines for each course.
Guests can look forward to five dishes and five wines including salad, a vegetable dish, a seafood and meat course, topped by dessert, with partnering wines from the Mediterranean regions of Italy, Sicily, Southern Spain and Western France.
To Roush, who plans to become a big part of Ellicottville’s trendy restaurant circuit, this is so much more than five dishes and five wines.
“I look at this as educational entertainment,” said Roush, who will be demonstrating and discussing culinary techniques and ingredients throughout the dinner.
The high quality wines for the event were carefully chosen by Carscallen, who travels the world annually in search of distinctive and exceptional wines that are not easily found in common wine stores. But, if you fall in love with one you must have again, Carscallen’s shop will have it available for you.
