ASP/CCAC Partner to Present ‘Works on Wood’

ASP_page_Works-on-WoodSALAMANCA — Allegany State Park (ASP) and the Cattaraugus County Arts Council (CCAC) have once again teamed up to present their semi-annual art show and silent auction. This year’s event, “Works on Wood,” features local artists’ interpretation of campstools, signs, baskets and hiking sticks — with maybe a few surprises thrown in!

Local artists were asked to raid their basements, attics, garages, estate sales, etc. to find pieces to transform into works of art. Even unique items from area beaches and local trash days were salvaged and reused. The result? A display of items that will appeal to animal lovers, campers, outdoors enthusiasts, nature lovers, those interested in Allegany State Park, and more!

Pieces will be on display for viewing in the Quaker Store Museum of Allegany State Park until Aug. 9. That afternoon they will be moved to the Red House Beach area of the park in preparation for the silent auction at the annual ASP/CCAC Full Moon Family Beach Party that night.

The Beach Party will feature music by ASP’s own Artist in Residence Kevin McCarthy who brings his fun, energetic and infectious brand of music to this event. He will be followed by WNY’s own New York Rockin’ Revue, a quartet of great musicians who bring a “Fun is Contagious” attitude to all their performances! The Beach Party will also feature kids’ activities, a lifeguard competition, and maybe even the Limbo (everybody limber up). The night will be capped off with a beautiful fireworks display over Red House Lake.

In addition to seeing them at the park, the “Works on Wood” pieces can also be viewed on the Cattaraugus County Arts Council website at www.myartscouncil.net or the Allegany State Park Facebook page. All proceeds from the auction go towards arts programming in the park in conjunction with the CCAC.
