Olean Kennel Club Offers Dog Training Classes

Since 1923, the Olean Kennel Club has offered dog training classes at its facility on Route 16 in Olean, N.Y.

Classes are forming year round for basic puppy training and pet obedience to more specialized training for agility and new competitions like Canine Nose Works. Classes offered are AKC STAR puppies for dogs less than 1 year old, canine good citizen basic obedience training, conformation training for breed showing, obedience competition, rally obedience competition, and agility for fun and competition. A new class is K9 Nose Work. Nose Work is a training that allows a dog to use its natural scenting abilities to find hidden items. It is similar to how “scenting” dogs are trained and dogs love this fun game. Classes are also offered to train dogs for therapy work.

After training, if a dog passes the Therapy Dogs International examination, it is certified to visit nursing homes, schools, clinics and hospitals. Th e dogs can also become Tail Waggin’ Tutors who help children with reading difficulties by being non-judgmental listeners. Dogs are natural therapists and therapy dog training is the ticket to your dog helping others. Classes are open to all dogs, whether pedigree or mixed breed. All instructors are experienced, use positive training methods and are certified by dog training associations. Whether you need help with basic training or want to take part in a fun activity with your dog, the Olean Kennel Club can help you. Please call (716) 925-7109 for more information or check their website at www.theoleankennelclub.org.
