Looking to enjoy the outdoors and get a great workout this weekend? Stop down to Allegany State Park on Sunday for some cross-country ski action!
On Feb. 16, the Annual Art Roscoe Loppet XC Ski Race, which helps support the Allegany Nordic Ski Patrol, will be held on the trails of the Art Roscoe Ski Area. The race begins and ends at the Summit Ski Area Lodge on the Red House side of the park.
The Loppet draws skiers from several states to the rolling trails of the Art Roscoe Trail System. First-timer or seasoned pro, everyone will enjoy the park’s trails featuring miles of amazing and beautiful challenges, and due to its high elevation, the trails often boast a tremendous base and excellent conditions based on even a few inches of fresh snow. Race organizers work closely with park staff to groom and set track for a fun, safe and challenging day of racing.
Distance options for all levels of skiers are 6K, 13K and 22K, all run in a classic ski format. Awards to overall male/female in each distance, individual top five in each distance, and top overall male and female 22K finishers win a pair of Infinity poles!
A fun post-race party, lunch, door prizes and awards ceremony round out one of the most visible days of skiing in Western New York.
Preregister at www.heartrateup.com or come down beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday to sign up. Registration takes place at the Summit Ski Area Lodge, and races begin at 9:30 a.m.
