This Saturday, Feb. 15, Holiday Valley transforms into a resort for a cause. Together with The Boardroom Snowboard Shop, the sixth annual Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) board-a-thon will be held on Feb. 15 and includes a day full of activities to further breast cancer education and awareness.

Activities include special riding and park clinics for women, a park contest open to men and women snowboarders and skiers, local shop demos, a cancer awareness outreach booth, silent and Chinese auctions, and an awards reception party.

“We’re happy to host the B4BC event for our sixth year,” said Jane Eshbaugh, Holiday Valley’s marketing director. “It’s a great event because people of all ages and abilities can participate in some way, and the message of cancer prevention and early detection is so important for everyone. The money we generate for Camp Good Days Women’s Oncology program is the icing on the cake!”

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Birdie Room on the second floor of the Holiday Valley Lodge.

The morning women’s clinics include learn-to-ride, learn-to-park and general freeriding clinics. The afternoon park event is open to men and women, snowboarders and free skiers. Entry is $40 for the clinics, and if you need a lift ticket, it’s only $25, for purchase at the registration area.

The Tribute Ride down Mardi Gras, a special opportunity to ski or ride in the name of a loved one or just to ride in support of a friend, family member or co-worker starts at 12:30 p.m. Registration for this event is at the Mountain Top Warming Hut (located at the top of Mardi Gras) for a $10 donation.

At 1 p.m., the Breast Trick Contest begins in the rail park. The contest is open to male or female skiers or snowboarders and is a great opportunity to show off your best park skills!

At 3:30 p.m., head back to the Birdie Room for the awards, reception and auction, where fabulous items can be yours for the taking with a little luck.

The cancer outreach awareness tent and the demo tents on the Resort Services Center Plaza will be open all day. In addition, visitors can show their support by purchasing a pink silicone bracelet for $2 at the customer service desk, or check out the selection of cool B4BC T-shirts at John Harvard’s Brew House.

Proceeds from this event will go to Boarding for Breast Cancer Awareness Programs and the Buffalo area’s Women’s Oncology Program at Camp Good Days, which, according to their website, “provides women with cancer the opportunity to meet other women who have undergone similar challenges and to share life experiences. Designed by women, for women, these programs address the risks, fears and barriers of everyday life that most women face during and after treatment.”

The first five years of B4BC have raised almost $55,000 for breast cancer research. This year’s fundraising goal is $20,000.

Everyone is welcome to become a fundraiser for the cause by starting an online campaign (find the link at www.holidayvalley.com), or dropping off a donation at The Boardroom on Route 219, just around the corner from Holiday Valley.

Sponsors for B4BC include the SKM Group integrated marketing communications agency and I-Evolve Technology Services.

Support this important and worthwhile cause by stopping at Holiday Valley for the B4BC event on Saturday. If you can’t make it, please consider making a donation.
