This past weekend, the Holiday Valley Freestyle Team travelled to Buffalo Ski Club for two aerial competitions. Twelve team members made the trip for the first aerial events of the year.
In the girls’ events, Morghan Socha led the way in the first even with a 4th place overall finish and took 2nd in the F4 division for both events. Brooke Butler also had a great day of jumping and took 2nd in both events. Sage Rifkin and Emily Pawlik took home wins in their age groups in both events, with Sage finishing 4th overall in the second event. Lauryn Socha had a rough start to the day in the first event, but rebounded to bring home the win in the afternoon event (F5 division).
For the boys, Bryce Butler led the way finishing 3rd overall in the morning event and 4th overall in the afternoon event. In the M4 division, he ended up with a 2nd and 3rd result. Bryce did a 360 with an ‘X’ and a 360 mute grab. In the M3 division, Sam Capizzi won the morning event, Quinn Rifkin took 3rd and Jed Rifkin 4th. Bennett Socha came home with wins in both events (in the M6 division) and Rick Oberholzer had 5th and 6th place finishes in the two events.
Holiday Valley also had two competitors travel to Hunter Mountain for mogul events on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 8–9. Mike McGuire had a great weekend with 2nd place finishes both days in the M4 division. Overall, he was 5th on Saturday and 6th on Sunday. Jacob Corao made it into the top 10 finishing in 10th place.
