Auction Prizes Highlight Saturday’s Ken Brown 700 Club Fundraiser

700-Club-fundraiser-3-1-13-025Skiers and non-skiers alike are invited to join the Ken Brown 700 Club Fundraising Party this Saturday afternoon, March 1, at Holiday Valley.

The fun starts at noon at Yodeler’s Champagne Sundeck, but the highlight of the event is the 1 p.m. auction loaded with fabulous prizes, which include ski passes, bottles of wine, ski clothing, gift certificates, local art, gift baskets and so much more — all generously donated by individuals and businesses in the Ellicottville community.

What is the Ken Brown 700 Club?

In 2000, Ken found 10 skiers, who also turned 70 that year — hence, the 700 Club—to get people together, enjoy a good time and help others. Each skier put in $50 to sponsor a party to raise funds for local charitable organizations. To date, over $40,000 has been raised and donated by the club to over a dozen causes.

To the original 10, over 40 new members have been added and membership is expected to reach well over 50 this year. Skiers over age 70 are welcome to join for a $50 donation, but if you’re still a youngster, don’t let that stop you — you’re still eligible to become an associate member for $25.

“Ken Brown loved people and always did what he could to help out others less fortunate, from literally giving his jacket to someone on the street, to staging events for the enjoyment of his friends,” said Ollie Hazard.

Come hungry this Saturday to enjoy the large buffet for a $7 donation and bring some extra cash so you don’t go home empty-handed after the auction.

It’s also not too late to make a cash or prize donation to the auction. Just call steering committee members, Les Fox at (716) 945-1176 or Ollie Hazard at (716) 699-4091 for pickup information.

Share fond memories of Ken and get to know his many friends during an afternoon of generosity and friendship.

“The club’s only purpose is summed up in its motto: ‘Help Us Help Others,’” said Don Ames, member of the steering committee.
