When Jason Woodarek and his wife, Lisa, bought Hoagies restaurant in Ellicottville from Dan “Kuk” Kukulka one year ago, they were excited to be part of the village culture.

Hoagies has been a fixture on Monroe Street in Ellicottville, serving pizza, subs and salads from its Monroe Street location since 1986. The Woodareks anticipated a long run in the village but now that has changed.

Jason was informed recently that his Monroe Street lease would not be renewed when it expires on March 31, 2014. The building will be taken back by the owner, Tom Zerbian, and will be used for Zerbian’s own business venture.

That means Hoagies needs to find a new home as soon as possible, so it can continue serving its loyal clientele and employing two full-time and three part-time staff.

When asked about the ideal location for the new Hoagies, Woodarek said, “The home has to be on Monroe or downtown Washington Street.”

Hoagies offers delicious options like subs made with premium meats, wings, salads and pizza made with fresh dough. Over the past year, the restaurant added new steak and chicken subs. The noted chicken wing subs are still made in Kuk’s familiar style. They also offer delivery during lunch and dinner hours and hope to continue this service.

Woodarek said, “We would like to be up (and running) by fall at the latest, June at the earliest.”

If Hoagies cannot find a village location, they would consider moving out of town but definitely prefer to stay in the heart of the village.

No matter what happens, Woodarek said, “We’ll be back!”

The restaurant is still open Monday–Thursday, 10 a.m.–9 p.m.; Friday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–10 p.m.; and Sunday, 11:30 a.m.–7 p.m. For phone-in orders, call (716) 699-4696.  Check out their menu at www.hoagiesubs.com.
