The National Technical Honor Society Chapter based at the Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES Career and Technical Education Center at Ellicottville welcomed eight new members during a ceremony held on Thursday, March 20.
This year’s members are: Matthew Bacher, Franklinville Central School, Animal Science; Sammantha Bass, Springville Griffith Institute, Early Childhood Education; Dennis Davies, Ellicottville Central School, Building Technology; Brooklynn Defoe, Cattaraugus-Little Valley Central School, Media Communications; Michael Morgan, Pioneer Central School, Natural Resources; Samuel Plaisted, Franklinville Central School, Power Equipment Technology; Mackenzie Riggs, Salamanca City School, Medical Assisting; and Courtney Westberg, Pioneer Central School, Early Childhood Education.
Following a welcome by BOCES Building Principal Mr. Noel Sheehy, NTHS members received certificates from their vocational teachers. The certificates were presented in wood frames crafted by the Building Technology class. NTHS Advisor Mrs. Vicki Slevinski then explained the importance of knowledge to begin the candle lighting ceremony. NTHS students then described the seven attributes of an NTHS member: skill, honesty, service, responsibility, scholarship, citizenship and leadership.
All students were also commended for their scholastic achievements and their choice of a vocational educational pathway for a successful future.
