On March 7, 2014, the ladies of the Ellicottville Ski Club at Holiday Valley held their 9th annual “Ladies’ Day.” Over 60 women participated in the “Skiing for Animals” fundraising event for Almost Home Animal Sanctuary located in Little Valley. As a result of the day of skiing, and the dinner complete with raffles and live auction that followed, the women raised $6,000. In addition to the monies raised, the ladies also collected numerous needed items such as pet food, beds, collars and leashes, which were presented to Doctor Timothy and Laurie O’Leary of Almost Home.
The event that began nine years ago as an informal ladies’ ski day, followed by a dinner prepared by the men of the club, has grown to be an annual fundraising event. To date, the women of the Ellicottville Ski Club have raised over $33,700 for various area charities. Past recipients include Alzheimer’s Association of WNY, Family Support for Ellicottville, Lounsbury Adaptive Ski Program at Holiday Valley, Mercy Flight of Western New York, Susan G. Komen “Team Cure” at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and The March of Dimes of Western New York.
Erin Fierle and Lisa Colby, co-chairs of the annual ESC Ladies’ Day event, along with Deb Fierle and Laura DeCinque, auction chairs, commented, “Our event is so successful in part thanks to the area businesses, as well as the Ellicottville Ski Club members, and their generous contributions over the past nine years. We are thrilled that this year’s event raised over $6,000 in cash and needed items for the Almost Home Animal Sanctuary and that our donation will directly make an impact on the care programs at Almost Home.”
