Allegany Adventure Run This Weekend 6K, 13K and 22K Races May 3

By Alicia Dziak

Get ready for this weekend’s Allegany Adventure run on May 3 at Allegany State Park (ASP). This is the 11th year of the run, which challenges runners to in a 6K, a 13K and a 22K.

With wide, rolling hills and not too much technical difficulty, the trails offer a challenge to all levels of racers. The race starts and finishes at the Summit Ski Area in Red House, and all courses take runners through some of ASP’s finest terrain.

The 6K starts at 10 a.m. and leads around the slightly hilly Sweetwater trail.

The 13K begins at 9:45 a.m., proceeding down Sweetwater trail, Christian Hollow and Leonard Run, and then turning back on Ridge to the finish. This demanding run features many climbs and descents.

The 22K follows Sweetwater, Christian Hollow and Leonard Run, and then leads down Ridge Run to the lower section of the Art Roscoe Trail System. Runners descend to Patterson trail and then begin the 2-mile climbing finish.

Following the race, participants can relax and have fun at the post-race party with music, food and door prizes.

Registration is $25 for the 6K, $30 for the 13K and $35 for the 22K. Pre-register at www.heartrateup.com — the first 250 entrants will receive a free T-shirt — or stop down on race day to join the fun! Proceeds will benefit Allegany Nordic Ski Patrol, HEART Animal Shelters and the Allegany State Park Trail Fund.

After the race and party, spend the rest of your Saturday enjoying spring at ASP. Visit the gift shop, relax by the lake or drive around and pick out your campsites for summer.
