The Ellicottville Eagles varsity baseball team fell 12-10 to West Valley Central School in seven innings on May 8 at West Valley Central School despite racking up seven hits and 10 runs. Even in defeat, Robert Sawicki played well. He got on base four times, scored one run and had one RBI. He singled in the first and third innings. Sawicki handled West Valley Central School’s lineup with ease, racking up seven strikeouts. He allowed one earned run on three hits and four walks. Six runs in the top of the fourth helped the Eagles close their deficit to 10-7. An RBI double by Cody Mowery, an error, a two-run single by Tom Easton, an error, and a hit by pitch fueled the Eagles’ comeback. Two more Ellicottville runs crossed the plate in the top half of the fifth, making the score 11-9. An RBI double by Easton and an error set off the Eagle’s rally. A one-run sixth inning helped bring the Ellicottville Eagles Varsity within one but that was as close as they would get.
Phalla Musall went 2-2, sparking the Eagles to a 4-1 victory in seven innings over Franklinville Central School on May 18 at ECS. He singled in the first inning and doubled in the third inning. Tom Easton pitched the complete game for Ellicottville racking up seven strikeouts. Easton allowed one earned run, six hits and one walk over seven innings. The Eagles jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. They got things going when Musall singled. A stolen base then moved Phalla from first to second. Dylan Paprocki singled, scoring Phalla. The Eagles stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the third, scoring two runs on an RBI double by Pete Hutchinson and an RBI single by Sawicki. Calum Watt also doubled for ECS, recording his first hit of the season.
