Volunteers of Cornell University Cooperative Extension, Cattaraugus County, present free gardening lectures on Wednesday evenings, 7–8:30 p.m., at the Nannen Arboretum located at 28 Parkside Dr. in Ellicottville, N.Y.
Come enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Nannen Arboretum while attending lectures in Northrup Nature Hall and Chapman Nature Sanctuary. In case of rain, the lectures will take place inside the Town Center building. All lectures are free of charge. First topics run 7–7:40 p.m. and second topics 7:45–8:30 p.m.
July 9: Garden of Weedin’, Weed ID with Vicki Bruning, MG; and Listen to Your Weeds with Barb Kozlowski, MG.
July 16: Dividing Perennials with Tina Szulewski, MG and Melinda Buckley, MG; and Spinning Wool into Yard with Annie Widger.
July 23: Understanding Your Soil & Using Compost to Improve It with Lyn Chimera, MG; and Low Maintenance Turf Care with Lyn Chimera, MG.
July 30: Roses – Selecting the Right Rose with Maggie Smith, MG; and Creating Fairy Gardens with Nan Miller, MG.
Aug. 6: Nature Activities for Kids – Make & Take. Must be accompanied by an adult. Create sock critters, propagate new plants, check out ‘living’ soil with magnifying glass, create a miniature moss garden, build a fairy garden to leave among arboretum trees – presented by several Master Gardeners.
Aug 13: A Taste of Hawk Creek – Live Raptors and Some Mammals with Jay Newman, MG; and Fresh Eggs Daily – Raising Chickens with Marilyn Siperek.
Aug 20: The Basics of Hydrangeas – Demystifying the Species with Pat Kerl, MG; and Ways to Get Your Workout in While Gardening with Jessi Luke, MG.
