First Annual ECS Sports Boosters Scholarship Awarded

By Todd Palmatier

The school bell has rung for the last time for the 2013-14 school year and graduation has taken place.

The Ellicottville Sports Boosters have begun the task of taking up the ECS school gym floor, which they will be selling to raise money to help the sports teams in the future. They will also be auctioning and selling old school uniforms. So, if anyone is interested in buying an old uniform or purchasing part of the gym floor please contact, Todd Palmatier, Deb Golley, Kyle Woodin or Shana Chudy. You can message the group on Facebook.

The Ellicottville Sports Boosters has also started their first annual scholarships this year. Seniors Elizabeth Wendel and Dylan Paprocki are the inaugural winners of the $250 scholarship grants. Congratulations to you both and good luck on your college careers!

The Sports Boosters are also hosting an Adult Only Party on July 26 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Great Valley Fire Hall. There will be music, drinks, a Chinese auction and 50/50 drawings. The cost is $10 per person. The boosters are presently looking for basket donations and raffle items to help them raise funds to support ECS athletics. Please contact a board member if you have a basket or item for the raffle.

Little League baseball and softball have also begun to wind down, with the league championships being decided this week. In softball, the Sixt Lumber Angels completed an undefeated season and took home the title. In Minor Leagues, the Fitzpatrick & Weller Indians claimed the title with an 11-4 record. In the Major Leagues, the Ayrhart Orioles took home this year’s title with a 9-6 record.

The ECLV Junior league baseball team is hovering at the .500 mark and has been playing some competitive baseball against much larger school districts. The Junior League girls’ softball is also having their struggles of late and has suffered losses to Springville 1 and Springville 2 in their past few games. The girls take to the diamond on July 6 against the Buffalo River Rock age 13-14 team in a best of three format at the Cattaraugus-Little Valley varsity softball field, with the winner representing the WNY region in the state qualifier. As always, the ECLV Little League is looking for volunteers to fill board positions for 2015. If you are interested, please contact Todd Palmatier at (716) 244-0964.

Youth Soccer teams have been chosen for the summer, and coaches will be contacting you about practices and games in the coming days. Thanks to all who came out and helped with the setup of the fields at the park in Ellicottville.

The Ellicottville Little Eagles football and cheer are also hard at work with one signup on the books. The next signups are approaching fast — July 14 from 6 to 8 p.m., and July 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Ellicottville Memorial Library. If you sign up on the 14th, you can receive a $10 family discount off registration. Prices this year are $40 first child, $30 second child and $20 for the third, with a $90 family total fee for registration.

The fundraiser is selling five Charity Mania football tickets at $20 each or a $60 opt-out fee. If you choose the fundraiser, you are responsible for the sale of all five tickets. There will be no returns. If you have any questions, please contact a board member or leave us a message on Facebook. The first day of practice is Aug. 1.
