Tee Time! Golf Season in the Region

The air is warm. The sun is out. The grass is green. This can only mean one thing—summer is here and it’s time to tee off in the Enchanted Mountains!

Golfers can choose to stay in Ellicottville or take a short drive to enjoy this sport—or better yet, check out all the courses.

Holiday Valley offers a fantastic 18-hole, par 70, Double Black Diamond course surrounded by spectacular scenery.

Greens fees are as follows: Friday, Saturday and Sunday — 18 holes $46, 9 holes $30; Monday through Thursday — 18 holes $34, 9 holes $24. After 4 p.m. on Monday-Saturday or after 2 p.m. on Sunday is $24. An 18-hole replay with cart is $30 and 9-hole replay with cart is $20. Youth ages 16 and under enjoy the junior rate of $24.

Cart rentals are available for $16 for 18 holes and $10 for 9 holes. Club rentals are $22 for 18 holes and $12 for 9 holes.

Looking to improve your swing? Try golf lessons! Holiday Valley offers lessons for all ages and abilities, led by Steve Carney, a Master PGA Golf Professional.

Why not invest a little to improve and enjoy a lot? A half-hour lesson is $40, a one-hour lesson is $70 and a couple’s lesson is $90.

If the younger set in your family is interested in golf, consider Holiday Valley’s Junior Golf Clinic, scheduled throughout July and August.

Elkdale Country Club, located at 7871 Stone Chimney Rd. in Salamanca, is a semi-private golf club open for public play seven days a week.

Elkdale’s greens fees are as follows: Friday, Saturday and Sunday –18 holes for $41 ($57 with cart), 9 holes for $21 ($30 with cart); Monday through Thursday — 18 holes for $31 ($47 with cart), 9 holes for $17 ($26 with cart). Twilight rates are in effect Friday, Saturday and Sunday — 18 holes for $25 ($41 with cart) or 9 holes for $17 ($26 with cart.).  Juniors age 15 and under play for half the price of adult fees.

Lessons are available for men, women, juniors and groups by appointment, led by PGA Professional Jack Widger. Private lesson prices start at $30 for a half hour and a junior lesson is $20, or gather up some friends and enjoy a group lesson for $25 per person, per hour.
