Depew, N.Y. – For the sixth year, the national nonprofit organization Boarding for Breast Cancer (b4bc.org) held its event at Holiday Valley with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Women’s Oncology programs at Camp Good Days. Activities in the name of breast cancer awareness included special riding and park clinics for women, a park contest open to men and women snowboarders and skiers, local shop demos, a cancer awareness outreach booth, silent and Chinese auctions, and an awards reception party.

The event, which was held in February, attracted skiers and snowboarders from WNY and beyond raising $3,300. This donation puts the total amount donated from B4BC to Camp Good Days to over $25,000 in six years.

While Camp Good Days exists primarily to improve the quality of life for children with cancer, the organization does also provide programming for women oncology patients; in fact, this segment is the organization’s fastest growing group. In addition to offering women ages 18 and up the chance to enjoy the camp facility during several summer retreats, Camp Good Days also provides year-round programming for this group. Past activities have ranged from belly dancing lessons to pottery to candy making.

“No matter the diagnosis, no matter the staging or prognosis, women need to bond, share, provide comfort and support and most of all — laugh,” said Lisa Booz, Camp Good Days regional director. “Well-being for a cancer patient isn’t just physical, it is emotional and spiritual. Camp Good Days provides an environment open to these needs and the friendships flourish.”

Sponsors for Boarding for Breast Cancer include Holiday Valley, SKM Group, I-Evolve Technology Services, Towne BMW and Mini. The Joy Family Foundation of Buffalo also made a generous contribution to the event.

Camp Good Days and Special Times is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by cancer.  For more information about any of the programs or services, to learn about volunteer opportunities or to make a tax-deductible donation, please call (716) 206-0709 or visit www.campgooddays.org.
