Star Party at Allegany State Park Aug. 23

Join us on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 8:30 p.m. at Park Site #52 at the south end of Quaker Lake to enjoy naked eye viewing of our beautiful night sky.  You are probably familiar with the Big Dipper but can you find the Little Dipper?  And how about the ice cream cone among the stars and the graceful swan gliding across the summer sky? We’ll learn about these and other celestial wonders.  Long time amateur astronomer, Bert Probst, will lead us on a tour of the splendors of the summer sky.  Sagittarius will provide some spectacular views.

Be sure to dress warm and bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on, and binoculars if you have them. Please no pets or unshielded flash lights. (Red cellophane covering a flash light will provide adequate illumination and yet preserve our night vision.)

In case of clouds or rain the event will be cancelled.
