Lesinski Receives Wayne Krieger Scholarship
OLEAN, N.Y. – Three students were awarded scholarships from the Wayne Krieger Memorial Scholarship at the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.
Established by Mr. Krieger’s family in memory of the former Cattaraugus County sheriff’s deputy, the fund awards three $750 scholarships available to graduating seniors studying criminal justice at Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES and who plan to pursue the law enforcement field in college — one at each of the BOCES sites where Mr. Krieger taught — Belmont, Ellicottville and Olean.
“We’re proud to announce these scholarships and happy to help carry on the legacy of one of our area’s finest law enforcement officers,” noted Karen Niemic Buchheit, CRCF executive director.
The 2014 recipients include:
Kyle Legere of Olean, who is pursuing Criminal Justice at Jamestown Community College in Olean; Cassandra Lesinski of Great Valley, who is pursuing Criminal Justice at JCC in Olean; and Tyler Wlasniewski of Andover, who is pursuing a degree in Corrections Administration at Monroe Community College.
Mr. Krieger, of Delevan, worked for the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Department from 1976 to 2000. He was the department’s first canine officer and also served as a DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) officer from 1995 to 2000. He passed away in August 2010.
