Letter to the Editor

Thank You Giving Tree Sponsors!

Because of you, our “Backpack Drive” was made possible! Due to your care and generosity, over 150 children were assisted with back-to-school needs! Pictured here is Desirai Washburn, grade 4, representing the many children you helped this year.

We would like to THANK YOU for your overwhelming support that has made it possible to provide children with new school clothes, shoes, backpacks, and school supplies. This was made possible in part by the support of the Dr. Lyle F. Renodin Foundation, The Evans Agency, ITT, area businesses, individuals, and community groups who donated finances and school items.

Pictured here are employees from ITT Enidine Inc. and community volunteers who helped distribute backpacks during the Day of Caring in August.

There were many tears of relief in parents’ eyes and smiles on children’s faces throughout the day. “Oh my goodness!” said one little girl, who could barely hold in her excitement as she opened her backpack. She pulled out her new clothing and wanted to try things on right then and there. Because of your support, all of these children were able to proudly attend their first day of school well dressed and prepared with school supplies in hand.

Your donations make this mission possible! We could not begin to touch these lives without your help!

“I just thank God for what you do … Please never stop … You don’t even know the difference that you have made in our lives!” Statements like these are what keep us going.

There are many struggling families who live in the Southern tier region. Poverty doesn’t stop at the city line. Many of those we help are the working poor, the elderly, and those disabled. Each year our organization helps to meet over 47,000 food, clothing, and infant needs in the Southern Tier community.

Donations can be dropped off at the Trading Post Outreach located at 38 Franklin St., in Springville, Monday 6 a.m.–9 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 10 a.m.–4 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Call (716) 592-4455 to get involved as a volunteer or for more info.
