SOUTH WALES, N.Y. — History is alive and well and you can experience it at the 10th annual Western New York Fiber Arts Festival, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ski Lodge in Emery Park, South Wales, N.Y. The event will open your eyes to how people have provided for themselves for generations.

Need a set of clothes? Want to see how it was made 100 years ago, 200 years ago, 500 years ago? The connection between humans and animals, plants and insects is ancient and ongoing.

This festival is one of many throughout the country that highlights the art of turning gifts of Mother Nature into useful and beautiful items. There will be more than 40 vendors, including fiber artists, farmers, shepherds, alpaca and llama raisers, and artisans making soaps and potions to keep you healthy.

Spinners of fiber from wool to flax, weavers, knitters, lace-makers and quilters will demonstrate their skills and show off their fine wares. You can participate in workshops to learn these skills as well. You will find one-of-a-kind sweaters, blankets, hats and mittens, woodcarvings, pottery and purses among the many offerings.

You can eat and drink and even find some local wine. Kids will find make-n-take fun, a jump rope maker and even see silkworms in action.

The entry fee is $5 for those over 10. For more information visit www.WNYFiberartsfestival.com or call Victoria at (716) 652-3237.
