Free Money for Artists

Artists living in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and Allegany counties are invited to apply for free funding provided by the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization (DEC) Program and administered locally by the Cattaraugus County Arts Council in Allegany, N.Y. The Community Arts grants, Artist in Community grants and Arts Education grants funding applications are available now – all with a due date of Nov. 7, 2014, by noon.

Community Arts (CA) grants category supports the activities of arts groups and community organizations in service to community residents. CA funds programs that increase the value and recognition for the arts and artists as an integral part of the community. Projects should work to enhance cultural dialogue and respect for the cultural legacies of our communities, as well as increase visibility for the arts in our communities. The CA category of the DEC program is designed to bring arts to the community and make art as accessible as possible to the public.

The Artist in Community grants support two awards of $2,500 to two individual artists for the creation of new work within a community context. The goal of this grant opportunity is to support the creative work of individual artists in all disciplines at the local level while encouraging interaction between artists and community members to highlight the role of the artist as a community resource.

The Arts Education grants support the role that local cultural organizations and/or individual artists play in engaging K-12 public school students in rich artistic learning experiences. AE funds are designed to support arts education projects in K-12 school settings. Projects must focus on the exploration of art and the artistic process. Inter-curricular collaboration is encouraged but not required. The Arts Education funds are directed to cultural organizations and/or artists working in partnership with public schools in the service area of the DEC site.

All three grants will employ an online application form that can be found at www.myartscouncil.net. For the applicants’ ease, CCAC’s Programs and Grants Manager Courtney Mealy has provided the entire application as a downloadable working form so that applicants can have all the information ready before he or she applies online. This document is called “application questions.” Please feel free to forward this e-mail and information to anyone who may be interested.

Remember — the deadline for applications is Nov. 7 at noon. Interested applicants must set up an appointment with Courtney to go over the application process. Please contact her at courtney@myartscouncil.net or (716) 372-7455.
