The Ellicottville-Franklinville Griffins varsity football team beat the Cattaraugus-Little Valley Timberwolves on Halloween night 28-8. And that means it’s time for a road trip to The Ralph!

The Griffins had 329 total yards of offense, compared to 175 for Cattaraugus-Little Valley, on a rainy night and sloppy field. Senior Phalla Musall rushed 28 times for 260 yards and two touchdowns. His performance earned him a Connolly Cup nomination this week. This award is intended “to recognize outstanding varsity football players from over 80 schools in Western New York State.”

Senior Callum Watt had six carries for 28 yards and one touchdown. Quarterback Tommy Easton was 1-3 for 11 passing yards and rushed for nine carries and 28 yards with one touchdown.

The defense for the Griffins had a stout goal line stand in the first half to prevent the Timberwolves from scoring. They also held them to 175 total yards on the night. Watt and William Bays led the defense  with 13 solo tackles between them.

The team has locked up a berth in the Section 6 finals and will take on the No. 1 seed, the Randolph Cardinals, at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 6 at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

On Nov. 3, the Ellicottville-Cattaraugus-Little Valley girls’ volleyball team beat Falconer 3-2 in the Class C-2 finals. The team lost the first two matches but came back to win the last three, clinching the C-2 crown. The team heads to Lockport Nov. 6 to play Eden for the overall Class C title and state qualifier game.

The Ellicottville Eagles varsity girls’ soccer team lost a hard-fought battle to Maple Grove last Friday at Pioneer with a 2-0 final score. The team was runner up in Section 6 Class D playoffs.

Winter sports are right around the corner as practice begins this week.
