After a summer showing their work at art festivals up and down the East Coast, the Sean Huntington and Patricia Eckstrom Art Studios and Gallery is back open for the season. Open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Monday, the gallery is both a working art studio and gallery featuring the landscape watercolors of Sean Huntington and the paintings and nature-themed paper sculptures of Patricia Eckstrom.

Huntington has become well known for his striking and vibrant watercolors of trees nestled within the Western New York and Pennsylvania landscape. He creates stunning, wall-size pieces using layers of watercolor and gouache along with a latex resist process, in a method similar to batik.  Huntington’ paintings are dressed up with either copper or silver foil edging using a metal and leather stamp set that belonged to his grandfather and possibly his great-grandfather, giving the pieces a casual, industrial look.

Eckstrom works in a variety of media and is known throughout the area for her iconic paper sculptures. Her intricate work is so realistic that you really need to look carefully to fully take in all the details. As a result, Eckstrom’s painstaking art involves many elements to achieve each original piece. First, she soaks the paper in an acrylic wash and cuts into designs. Then she embosses it with a stylus to create realistic leaves, trees, fish and other paper sculptures. Eckstrom’s 3D sculptures are usually mounted in wooden shadowboxes.

Starting Nov. 28 and running through Christmas, the gallery will feature a special show of over 50 small, gift-priced artworks by both artists along with their usual offerings.

The studio/gallery is in the Town Center, next to the Nannen Arboretum, at 28 Parkside drive in Ellicottville. (Take Fillmore Street to the first intersection to reach the Town Center.)

Please call (716) 244-2943 for more information or to make an appointment, or go to or for more artist details.
