Restaurant Offers Signature Sauces and Slope Views

By Jennie Acklin

Bob Tekavec brings a new generation of ownership to one of Ellicottville’s newest restaurants, Slopeside Bar and BBQ, scheduled to open in a few days.

Located just 128 short steps from the Sunrise chairlift at Holiday Valley, it will be easy for skiers to find (located in the former Cadillac Jack’s restaurant).

Slopeside will feature a brand new menu with, as the name states, BBQ — ribs, chicken, mac & cheese, shrimp, pulled pork and brisket with a large variety of BBQ sauces. Four sauces will grace every table, and custom sauces will be served as well.

A kitchen full of brand new equipment, a completely remodeled interior, and a fresh style are some of the “new” components of Slopeside.

Tekavec graduated from Ellicottville Central School and then attended Plattsburgh State University. He graduated with a degree in Hospitality and Restaurant Management, and decided to experiment with various jobs in the culinary field before preparing for ownership of his own restaurant. From dishwashing at the Gin Mill, to cooking and tending bar at various places, he knew that understanding all phases of the restaurant business was important. His parents, Janet and Jim Tekavec, are former owners of the Gin Mill, so he saw how much hard work was involved on a day-to-day basis.

Tekavec also has been working in the local construction industry, and has remodeled many areas of the restaurant and plans to continue more remodeling there during off-season.

“I like cooking and I like talking to people,” he said. “I have a lot of ideas for Slopeside, but I want to focus on getting open. We will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.”

“Our menu will feature prime rib on Saturday nights, lots of BBQ choices, Slopeside burgers, salads, soups and seafood. A long list of appetizers includes signature fries and loaded nachos, as well as many other choices,” said Tekavec.

Slopeside will be offering domestic and imported beers, on tap and bottled, as well as a selection of craft beers. With a great view of the Sunrise chairlift at Holiday Valley, you’re sure to enjoy a few brews after a great day of skiing.

Watch for their opening day announcement in the Ellicottville Times, which should be any day now, or visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SlopesideEllicottville!
