Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas Break

12-26-14-XMAS

Shopping, Live Music, New Slopes, Winter Festivals for All

 By Alicia Dziak

The year is winding down, and there’s still plenty of fun to be had in Ellicottville before 2015 arrives!

Don’t miss the festively decorated village and all it has to offer this time of year. Grab a bite at one of the restaurants in town or stroll the streets and shop pre- and post-holiday sales for some great deals. Squeeze in some bowling and arcade games, or get in some much-deserved relaxation at a fine spa or the new salt cave spa.

Nightlife is sure to impress all week long with a great lineup of live entertainment, including nightly bands featured at The Gin Mill every night Friday, Dec. 26 through Saturday, Jan. 3 (except on New Year’s Day). Treat yourself to a night out with friends and take in the sounds of some wonderful local bands. See page 3 for the complete schedule.

Head to the slopes for tons of fun during the break week. Think snow, get out and enjoy your time off on the trails of Holiday Valley. Three new connecting trails were added this year to make getting around even easier. Take a hot cocoa break in one of the lodges, and shop for gear in the lodge’s ski shops.

You can also cross-country ski until 3 p.m. daily along the top ridgeline of Holiday Valley and around the golf course at the bottom of the mountain. A two-ride, cross-country ticket for the Mardi Gras lift for is only $15. Cross-country rental skis, boots and poles are available for $18 per day.

Looking for even more adventure? Holiday Valley’s Sky Flyer Mountain Coaster is open for the winter season. Ride up alone or with a friend in a private coaster car, then cruise back down through the snowy woods on a twisting, turning track.

New Year’s Eve

On Wednesday, Dec. 31, get ready to welcome the New Year! Check out Three Easy Pieces at The Gin Mill starting at 9 p.m., Passion Works at the new Armor Inn at 9 p.m. or the Tommy Z Band at Balloons, staring at 6 p.m.

Head to Holiday Valley, ski the night away until 10 p.m. and take part in their annual New Year’s Eve celebration. Enjoy a family-friendly party, the Holiday Valley Groomer’s Parade, a torchlight parade and fireworks — a perfect ending to 2014.

Coming in Early January

Canadian Friendship Week is back Jan. 5-9, when Holiday Valley will be offering fabulous deals for skiing, tubing and riding on the Sky Flyer Mountain Coaster.

Can’t get enough Ellicottville nightlife? Mark your calendars for Winter Blues weekend, Jan. 9-10, when all the hot spots will feature a variety of live music, sure to get your feet movin’.

The countdown to 2015 is on. Spend the last days of 2014 celebrating all Ellicottville has to offer, and come back in the New Year for even more fun in the village and on the slopes!
