Red Bull All Snow Event Feb. 21

Holiday Valley is hosting one of four Red Bull All Snow events on Saturday, Feb. 21.
As the event Web site explains, before “east coast hills had expertly designed terrain parks with triple kinks, stairsets, wallrides and pole jams, snowboarders and freeskiers had to make do with what Mother Nature gave ‘em. Hand dug half pipes, side cuts, natural hips were getting boosted from Jersey to Maine.”
The Red Bull event goes back to those early roots and creates unique courses “centered around flowing lines, getting air and leaving all your jib tricks at home.”
Translation: the entire course is designed using all snow, hence the name.
“Basically they’re creating a course made of all snow without any metal rails or boxes,” said Holiday Valley Marketing Director Jane Eshbaugh. “The idea is for riders to move through the course with “flow,” she added. “It certainly will be interesting to watch. We’re hosting it in the Rail Park at the bottom of Mardi Gras, so it will be easy for spectators to ski/ride or walk to the course.”
Riders and skiers (age 18+) compete by showcasing their “best tweaks, plants, airs and flow.” The top three in each event take home awards.
The tour began on Jan. 17 at Mountain Creek in New Jersey. After the Holiday Valley stop, Mt. Snow in Vermont will host on March 7, and New Hampshire’s Loon Mountain hosts the last of the series on April 4.
On-site registration opens at 9:30 a.m. Snowboard prelims begin at noon and ski prelims follow at 1:30 p.m. Finals begin at 3 p.m., followed by awards at 4:15 p.m. Visit www.redbull.com.
