Four Weeks of Music, History, Health and Family Fun

As we continue to move along through winter and experience all that Mother Nature has to offer in the forms of snow, ice and wind, it is fun to make note of upcoming special events and seasonal experiences happening throughout Western New York. There are some unique things to see and do over the next few weeks in Springville and Hamburg, so mark your calendars and add some of these to your “to do” list.
SPRINGVILLE
Feb. 7: Springville Center for the Arts “Songwriters Circle”
An acoustic songwriters circle featuring four talented musicians will take place at the Mongerson Theater at Springville Center for the Arts, located at 37 North Buffalo St. this Saturday, Feb. 7.
David Michael Miller, Chris Squier, Peter Sorkin and Nick Kowalski will participate in the music lovers’ event, set to begin at 7 p.m. The singers and songwriters will gather in an intimate setting to perform their own music, collaborate for some group performances and discuss the music industry and what performers influenced their work. Feb. 11: Springville-Griffith Institute “All Band Concert”
Elementary, middle school and high school student musicians will join forces for what the school district calls an “All Band Concert” on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
The general public is invited to attend the performance, which will begin at 7 p.m. at Springville-Griffith Institute High School, located at 290 North Buffalo St. The collaboration will allow the older students to teach the younger musicians by providing hands-on demonstrations that the elementary-aged musicians will use that evening.

Looking to get kids active this spring? Kids in preschool through 12th grade in Springville and surrounding communities are invited to sign up for tee ball, softball, baseball and soccer, sponsored by Springville Youth Inc. (SYI). In-person registration at SGI High School is Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, March 7 from 9 a.m. to noon, or online at syionline.org. Register for baseball or softball by March 7, and soccer by March 22, to avoid being put on a waiting list. For more information, visit www.syionline.org.
Every Weekend: Echoes through Time Learning Center, Civil War Museum
Anyone with an interest in American Civil War history is encouraged to visit the “Echoes through Time Learning Center” in the Civil War Museum at 9 East Main St. on Saturdays from 12-5 p.m. and Sundays from 1-5 p.m. The Center and museum are dedicated to the preservation of American heritage and historical sites through the promotion of American history and Civil War ancestors. HAMBURG
Feb. 7- 8: Kids Fun Fair
Families can experience rides, games and chances to interact with elephants, zebras, goats, alpacas and other exotic animals on Saturday, Feb. 7 and Sunday, Feb. 8 at the Kids Fun Fair.
The two-day event will take place from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at the Erie County Fairgrounds, located at 5600 McKinley Pkwy. Cost of admission is $10 for adults. Children ages 12 and under are admitted for free with a coupons available at various businesses throughout Western New York and at the front fox office on both days of the fair. Feb. 22: SUNY Fredonia College Choir Concert
The State University of New York Fredonia College Choir, a touring ensemble that studies and performs major choral works in addition to standard sacred and secular music, will perform on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 4 p.m. as part of the third annual Music Concert Series sponsored by Hamburg United Methodist Church. The concert will be performed at the church, located at 116 Union St. The choir has performed at various well-known venues, including Philharmonic Hall and Lincoln Center in New York City. March 6: Night at the Races
The Hamburg Chamber of Commerce will host a “Night at the Races” on Friday, March 6 at Buffalo Raceway, 5600 McKinley Pkwy. Sponsored by Buffalo Raceway and the Town of Hamburg’s Department of Community Development, tickets cost $25 and include a dinner buffet, soda and coffee, a reserved seat in the clubhouse, a racing day program book, a tip sheet, $5 in credit to place bets at Buffalo Raceway and $5 in free play at Hamburg Gaming. There will also be a raffle for a variety of prizes, including a tour of the Buffalo Raceway horse stables and an opportunity to have your photo taken with a winning horse on the track.
