On Feb. 7-8, the FLITE Team A athletes traveled to a bitter cold Killington, VT to run Highline’s Mogul course, which saw over a foot of snow over the 2 days of the event.
As the snow fell Friday, the moguls built up a very challenging course for the first year A Squad.
On Saturday’s single mogul event, Marissa Vasatka led the girls with a 14th place finish, while Lexi Crotty finished in 30th and Elissa Cole finished in 33rd.
The boys were led by Bubba Antkiewicz, who finished in 25th, followed by an impressive Lucas Goodin in 28th and Parker Johnston in 30th.
While the results of Saturday were not exactly what these athletes were looking for, the field of 42 females and 53 men proved to bring some stiff competition to the very capable field.
On Sunday, the Team took to duals.
The females again had brackets that had a path to the athletes dueling each other early in the competition. Marissa Vasatka lost her first dual in a battle, while Lexi Crotty lost her dual in a close match to the 5th place skier from Saturday. Elissa Cole did not advance to a second dual, losing to the 3rd place skier from Saturday as well. The girls exited the competition much earlier than they expected to.
The boys had Bubba Antkiewicz winning his first dual; however, he failed to advance against the 8th place finisher in his second dual. Parker Johnston also won his first battle, but fell short against the 3rd place skier from Saturday. Lucas Goodin failed to advance from his first dual.
While none of HoliMont’s skiers managed to crack the top 16, they did improve their skiing over the course of the weekend on a great course which will host a NorAm in two weeks.
These athletes continue to grow, mature and improve daily. The bond these athletes have while they travel the east has been a testament to the dedication they display to the sport of freestyle skiing.
