March Ain’t Over Yet at HoliMont!

We’ve passed the midpoint of March and that means that the number of days you have left to hit the slopes are dwindling way too quickly. But do not stress! With any luck, Ellicottville will get some fantastic spring skiing and riding conditions and you will close the season out with fond memories of hitting the slopes in shorts and t-shirts with your family and friends.

March has been (and will continue to be) a busy month here at HoliMont. HoliMont athletes in both Racing and the FLITE Team are accomplishing some amazing things. HoliMont Snowsports instructors have been constantly increasing their individual abilities and certification levels, War Veteran’s took to the slopes for two days of skiing, there’s been progress with the WestMont Ridge expansion project – and that’s just naming a few of the things that took place.

We’ve still got a week and a half to go this month and in that time HoliMont will play host to the 2015 Acrobag Tour (March 25-29), Ellicottville Chamber Day on March 26 and our annual Pond Skimming event on Saturday, March 28.

HoliMont Snowsports “Free Heel Fling”

What a gorgeous day for Nordic Skiing! On Friday, March 6, HoliMont Snowsports held its 9th annual Telefest with 40 Tele skiers hitting the slopes for a fun day of clinics, adventures, fabulous food and a race at the end of the day. It was great to see so many HoliMont members at our event. Many thanks go out to our sponsors who made the day so much fun with their wonderful prizes and donations.

Certification

Congratulations go out to Adele Wellman and Clark Duffin who passed their PSIA Level Three Nordic exam on March 1 at Timberline Ski area.

We are also proud to announce our new PSIA Level One instructors, Lila McKenna and Kelsey McNamara, who passed their exam at Peek n’ Peak on March 1.  Sophie Cochran Bryan Newpher, and Nick Zubin-Stathopoulos also passed their PSIA Children’s Specialist Level One exam.

On March 8, four of our Instructor Trainees passed their HoliMont Snowsports Instructor Exam. Tanner Probst, Julia Sabik, Victoria Macgregor and Melanie Peck, Brooke Lamar, Sarah Johnston, Lena O’Neill, Ryan Anderson and Victoria Krentz all passed with flying colors and are now Junior Instructors at HoliMont.

The FLITE Team

Congratulations to our “A” FLITE Team member, Elissa Cole, who placed 9th at Waterville, NH, and was named Female Rookie of the Year at Eastern Freestyle “A” Championships.

Elissa Cole, Marissa Vasatka, Lexi Crotty and former FLITE Team member Maggie Ryan are competing in US Junior Nationals in Park City Utah March 16 to March 22.

19 athletes competed at Eastern Freestyle EQS “B” Championships at Holiday Valley on March 14 & 15 in slopestyle, aerials and moguls.

Warfighter Sports Veteran’s Ski Clinic

On March 12 and 13, a very inspirational ski group took to the slopes of HoliMont. In collaboration with the HoliMont Snowsports Phoenix Adaptive Program, a group of military veterans came and showcased the definition of grit and perseverance. The injuries and obstacles that this group has overcome make learning to ski/snowboard look like a piece of cake. So it goes without saying that they’ve got all the drive and determination it takes to make them successful out on the slopes. It was an inspirational couple of days to say the least and we look forward to seeing them back at HoliMont in the future.
