If you visit or work/live in Olean, you know that the downtown infrastructure improvement project aimed at making North Union Street a “complete street” is under construction.
According to the city, the project “will transform downtown North Union Street with multi-modal safety improvements and streetscape investments.” Ultimately, the project will “improve safety for all users and create a vibrant place that encourages economic investment…and supports “the retention and expansion of local retail businesses. The project will also calm traffic, reduce accidents and restore pedestrian safety and ambiance.”
To help people navigate the area during the multi-year project, the city of Olean has produced a brochure that describes the scope of the project, an outline of the construction sequence, contact information, where to find construction alerts and a map showing locations for public and business-specific parking. The brochure also provides information about a new Olean Area Transit System (OATS) bus route that will help the public get to and from downtown.
The brochure is available to download at www.walkableolean.com and printed copies are available at the Greater Olean Chamber of Commerce, city offices and most merchants along North Union Street.
