It will be a big night for art in the Southern Tier on Saturday, Sept. 19 with the opening of the Southern Tier Biennial exhibition at the Olean Public Library Gallery and the Center Gallery of Jamestown Community College/Olean. The Southern Tier Biennial is a regional survey of contemporary art in the nine counties of New York State’s Southern Tier. Tina Hastings, Executive Director of the Cattaraugus County Arts Council, will announce the juror selections for Best of Show and three Honorable Mention winners at the Olean Public Library reception which begins at 3 p.m. with light refreshments. The Art Party moves to The Center Gallery at JCC at 4:30 p.m. where guests will see more fabulous art and enjoy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and live entertainment by Ade Adu. Both receptions are free and open to the public. The exhibits will be open through Oct. 23, 2015.
The 16 artists’ statements and photographs of their work are on the website (www.southerntierbiennial.com) and their works are included in the full color printed catalog available at the exhibiting galleries.
The Best of Show winner receives $1,000 and a solo show in the Fall of 2016 at the Olean Public Library Art Gallery with a full color printed catalog, up to $1,000 for professional development, and up to $1,000 for show expenses. The Honorable Mention winners each receive $500.
The Southern Tier Biennial is produced by the Cattaraugus County Arts Council, in collaboration with the Olean Public Library, Jamestown Community College, and the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation, made possible by an endowment from the estate of F. Donald Kenney.
