Allegany State Park. Who doesn’t love it? The camping, the nature programs, the hiking…so why not spend a few hours out of your year giving back to the park that you love!

On Saturday, Sept. 26, Allegany State Park will once again take part in National Public Lands Day — our 11th year of participation! This national celebration gives people a chance to give back, by allowing them to volunteer a few hours to care for the public lands they use.

This year, Allegany’s celebration will focus on the Quaker Area. There are many exciting projects in the works. They include gardening, cabin area clean up, sprucing up St. John’s in the Woods Chapel and more. We ask that you come dressed for the weather and to get dirty, as we will work rain or shine. So come join in the fun and help improve the park and the park visitor experience for all!

Registration starts at 9 a.m. at the Quaker Museum. Work projects are from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. A picnic supper (for a nominal charge) follows at 4 p.m. at the Quaker picnic area.

Pre-registration is appreciated by Sept. 22. We will also gladly accept walk-in volunteers the day of the event.  For more information, or to be added to our database, contact the Recreation Department at (716) 354-9101 ext. 236, or by email at katie.vecellio@parks.ny.gov. You can also check out www.publiclandsday.org for more information on this nation-wide event.
