Health & Fitness Fitness Weekend Coming Oct. 23-24

By Kim Duke, NETA & AFAA Certified Trainer & Owner, Core Performance Fitness and Training

It’s just two weeks until the EVL Halloween Half Marathon and 5K draws runners to town for what may be the biggest fitness weekend of the season.

It all starts on Friday, October 23 at Core Performance Fitness and Training, where we’ll be hosting an Open House to show off our new location at 55 Bristol Lane (off Fillmore Rd. in the Ellicottville Square complex) from 4-7 p.m.

The evening will feature Zumba demos with Samantha Nelson, a Zumba instructor at Core Performance, or you can take part in some circuit training.  You can also grab some goodie bags and receive special deals and deep discounts offered for Open House participants only.

Brittany Lowry, owner of Wholesome Hideaway, will also be a part of this open house, promoting clean and healthy eats. Samples from Wholesome Hideaway will be available at Core Performance, as well as in Brittany’s hidden gem of a kitchen and café next door.

The Open House is about sharing our fitness community with old and new clients. And it’s a perfect way to start your fun-filled weekend, particularly if you plan to participate in the following day’s Half Marathon & 5K.

The EVL Halloween Half Marathon and 5K is for runners of all abilities. The event itself was the brainchild of Gwen and Doug Bush, both seasoned runners and lifetime residents of Ellicottville. Last year the event was held in November and was very well received. This year is expected to be even more fun and has already surpassed last year’s early registration numbers.

Since the event is Halloween themed, costumes are highly recommended, but not mandatory.  Awards are given to the best costumes in the following categories: best group, best individual, funniest, scariest, most girly, best kid and best in show.   Participants can also expect more surprises along the course routes.  And, of course there will be an after party with refreshments and music.

This year, participants will also be treated to a warm up event before the race. Nelson, will have some of her fitness friends assisting her with a fun and easy way to warm up your muscles before hitting the pavement.
