Permits Approved by Village Planning Board

By Jann Wiswall

The Village Planning Board approved sign permits for Villaggio and E-ville Spirits & Wines during its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Villaggio owner Nick Pitillo asked the board about stringing lights on the building façade to help draw people’s attention to the restaurant. The planning board noted that all the trees along Washington and Monroe will be lit starting Thanksgiving weekend and throughout the winter season. Board members said that they would reevaluate the request after the village lighting goes up. However, the board also said its primary responsibility is to avoid setting a precedent about façade lights that it might regret later.

The board also considered a special use permit application for Ed and Maribeth Rick, the owners of 26-28 Washington St., to operate five seasonal and long-term rental units on the second floor of the building, which they have recently renovated. Ed Rick said his hope is to rent units for several months or longer in order to avoid wear and tear on the newly decorated apartments.

A public hearing on the special use permit was scheduled for the board’s December meeting.

Finally, the board reviewed architectural plans for a two-story accessory garage at 1 Elizabeth St., a private home. The plans were approved with a few conditions, including official confirmation of the new structure’s square footage.

The next meeting of the Village Planning Board is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 8 in the village/town hall.
