Plus More Great Deals All Season

By Alicia Dziak

You don’t hear “ski” and “free” in the same sentence very often. So when you do, it’s time to take note! If you have a child currently in third or fourth grade, he or she can ski for free this winter!

Third and fourth graders from across the state and beyond can ski or ride free at the majority of New York resorts this winter when accompanied by a paying adult. In addition, third or fourth graders who are new to skiing and riding can take advantage of the Learn To Ski or Ride Passport for free.

The program is broken down into two parts and participants can take advantage of one or of both.

1. The Ski & Ride passport gives your third or fourth grader three free tickets at each participating ski area with a paying adult.

2. The Learn To Ski & Ride Passport gives your third or fourth grader a beginner lift ticket, rental and beginner lesson for each participating ski area in that part of the program. No adult purchase necessary.

How to Apply

You can complete the online application, upload your child’s proof of grade and pay the processing fee online. There is a $26 processing fee per child per type of passport ($51 for both passports per child). Be sure to include a copy of your child’s report card or progress report with your application (you can take a picture of it and upload it while applying online).

If you prefer, you may print out the form and mail in your application with proof of grade and a check to: ISKINY Free For Kids Passport Program, P.O. Box 375, Jamesville, NY 13078.

Holiday Valley participates in both programs. Visit www.iskiny.com to apply and for a list of all participating ski areas.

Discover NY Ski Day Jan. 28

Mark your calendars for Discover NY Ski Day, coming up on Jan. 28. According to iskiny’s Scott Brandi, Holiday Valley and other larger NY resorts will offer $24 lift tickets; many smaller resorts will offer $12 lift tickets. There will also be Learn to Ski or Ride specials that include beginner lift ticket, a lesson and rentals for only $35 ($25 at smaller resorts). “It’s our way of saying thank you,” Brandi said.

If you can’t wait until then, take advantage of discounted tickets to various resorts through the iskiny web site. A limited number of tickets go on sale mid-late December, so check back often to see what deals you can snag!

Finally, Brandi made note of the popular Gold Pass offered by iskiny. The transferable pass offers unlimited skiing and riding at all participating resorts, one resort per day. If you’re interested, don’t wait to get yours. “They sell out every year,” Brandi said.

Who doesn’t love free and discounted skiing and riding? Spend less on lift tickets and get ready for a season of fun on the slopes!
