This past weekend was a great one for Holiday Valley & HoliMont athletes. The U14 athletes traveled to Bristol Mountain in Canandaigua for a Giant Slalom and Super G while the U21/U19/U16 athletes headed north to Lake Placid and the annual Empire State Winter Games.
U14 Women Giant Slalom: Holiday Valley’s Cassidy Creager took the silver in Saturday’s Giant Slalom. Lauren Thomas took 3rd, Logan Fredrickson took 4th, Sierra Cappelli took 5th and Caroline DeRose came in 7th. These HV women have all but secured their spots in U14 States. HoliMont’s Kate Masliwec placed 8th.
U14 Men Giant Slalom: HoliMont’s men had a great showing, with Lucas Johnson taking the gold! Teammate Austin Gyorgy placed 7th. Alec Nolan of Holiday Valley had one of his best Giant Slalom finishes of his career placing 3rd. Alexander Wojnowski finished in 8th.
U14 Women Super G: Caroline DeRose of Holiday Valley won the Super G as a first year U14. Following her, and just .05 seconds behind, was Lauren Thomas. Logan Fredrickson finished 4th, Sierra Cappelli 5th and Cassidy Creager 6th. HoliMont’s Kate Masliwec finished in 10th.
U14 Men Super G: Holiday Valley’s Alec Nolan continued his success from the Giant Slalom and won the Super G race by 1.54 seconds! Right behind Nolan in 2nd place was teammate Dalton Potter. Alexander Wojnowski finished 9th. HoliMont’s Austin Gyorgy took the bronze and Lucas Johnson came in 4th.
Empire State Winter Games
U16 Women Super G: Taylor Hubert had her best Super G result with a 6th place finish (11th overall). Candice Kasahara placed 7th (12th), Paige Duffy placed 9th (14th), Anya Elizondo was 14th (26th), Devynn Martin 17th (31st) and Katherine Wojnowski 18th (32nd). HoliMont’s only female U16 athlete, Zoe Knauss, finished 24th (45th overall).
U16 Men Super G: HoliMont’s Gage Thibodeau had an amazing day, taking 3rd (11th overall). The Whiteface Super G is known to be dominated by athletes from the Upstate New York Region, kudos to Gage for nabbing a podium spot!
Teammate Andrew Mangan finished 5th (15th), Nicholas Scott came in 12th (31st) and Carlo Muscarella finished 20th (43rd). Holiday Valley’s Nathan Briselden placed 6th (16th overall), Josh Allegra was 11th (32nd) and Michael Mercer placed 18th (41st).
U16 Women Giant Slalom: The first run on the Whiteface course eliminated 45% of the athletes. The survivors were Holiday Valley’s Candice Kasahara, who came in 8th (12th overall), and Katherine Wojnowski and Taylor Hubert who tied for 15th (33rd).
U16 Men Giant Slalom: It was a similar day for the men where only 41% of the athletes finished the course. HoliMont’s Andrew Mangan improved on his Super G result and took 2nd (6th overall). He was the only HoliMont athlete to endure the tough course! Holiday Valley’s Josh Allegra placed 9th (18th) and Michael Mercer placed 11th (23rd).
U16 Women Slalom: Anya Elizondo of Holiday Valley took silver (3rd overall). Teammate Candice Kasahara placed 6th (11th), Devynn Martin took 8th (14th), Paige Duffy took 9th (17th) and Taylor Hubert took 23rd (43rd) – a great showing from the Valley’s strong technical team. HoliMont’s Zoe Knauss took 17th (32nd overall).
U16 Men Slalom: HoliMont’s Andrew Mangan finished the Games strong with another 2nd place finish (8th overall) and Gage Thibodeau finished close behind taking 3rd (9th). Michael Mercer of Holiday Valley finished 5th (15th) and Josh Allegra 16th (35th).
