Applications Due March 11
By Jann Wiswall
The search for a Town of Ellicottville Highway Superintendent has been reopened following by the County Civil Service Commission determination that the Superintendent must live within the town or they may move to the town within six months of their appointment.
Mark Alianello, who was appointed Town Highway Superintendent by the Town Board in January, is not able to meet the residency requirement in order to become eligible. Alianello, who owns MDA Consulting Engineers and serves as the town’s engineering consultant, was appointed to a part-time, contract job that was designed to provide high-level oversight responsibilities for the highway department.
Alianello, as a part-time superintendent, would not have been driving highway vehicles, operating equipment or repairing roads. To fill that gap, the board created a “Working Supervisor” position that would have handled all day-to-day decisions and activities. That position had not been filled.
In rethinking the position in light of the state’s requirements, the board is now looking for a full-time managerial Highway Superintendent and is no longer planning to create the working supervisor position. The job description is posted on the town of Ellicottville home page at www.ellicottvillegov.com. Letters of interest, including a resume describing work experience and qualifications, will be received until 4 p.m. on Friday, March 11 at the Office of the Town Clerk at 1 W. Washington Street, PO Box 600, Ellicottville, NY 14731.
Alianello is now serving as acting highway superintendent until a replacement is in place. He will continue to advise the department in his role as town engineer.
