Olean Area Home Show Coming April 8-10

This year’s Home Show will combine all the latest ideas for today’s home consumers from kitchens, bathrooms and home improvement products and services to the Smells of SPRINGTIME!  The Greater Olean Area Home Show sponsored by Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce and its 49 corporate sponsors, is scheduled from Friday, April 8 through Sunday, April 10 at the William O. Smith Recreation Center, 551 East State Street in Olean, across from Bradner’s Stadium.  Show hours are Friday, 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Home Show committee will once again dedicate show space to bring demonstrations, seminars back on the show floor. Friday, April 8, the schedule includes: Creating a Pollinator Friendly Habitat with Maggie Smith of the Enchanted Mountains Garden Club; and GROW IT, COOK IT, EAT IT: Shanna Miller of Miller’s Farm Market in Olean will speak and discuss a few easy dishes with garden veggies and also talk about a few herbs too.

Saturday, April 9, enjoy the following seminars: “Home Tweet Home” Bluebird Nest Box Building – Spring is just around the corner which means our wild feathery friends will soon be looking for a place to raise a family.  Give them a helping hand by learning how to build bluebird nest boxes. Think Spring, Think Pruning! — Joe Schueckler, master forest owner and personal grounds keeper of his own estate, will guide us through the pruning techniques you will need to create your home’s perfect surroundings.  Equipment will be on hand to share, but if you have your own pruning tools, please bring them along.

Also on Saturday, Jody Silvis of Inspired by Peaches will lead this workshop on Re-Purpose, Re-Paint, Re-Sell Good Finds.’ It will be how to make Re-Creations for Your Home.   Home Depot will be down and explain painting techniques.  Learn decorative interior painting tips and tricks that will give any room in your home designer style and personality.

Sunday, April 10, the schedule includes DIY Projects to Refresh Your Space on a Budget and Stripping and Staining Your Deck.  Come down and watch Tara Zak demonstrate how to transform a kitchen without spending a ton of money.

In addition, each night of the show has a theme.

WPIG-Fm – Friday Night Wine / Brew Walk — Enjoy tastes from NYS wineries, Brooklyn Brewery, Samuel Adams, Ellicottville Brewing Company, Southern Tier Brewing Company and even our very own Four Mile Brewing Co.   Show goers of age receive one free taste ticket.  Additional taste tickets will be available for purchase.

Wmxo-Fm – Saturday Handyman Contest — We want to find out just who is the Olean Area’s best handyman or woman!  There are plenty of those who say they are the best, but now it will be official. Each contestant has three fix-it challenges, and the one who completes in the quickest time with satisfaction from the judges wins!

The Mountain – Sunday Every :30 Minutes Raffles — In addition to the show grand prize, the home show will be giving away gift certificates from the home show vendors every 30 minutes on Sunday.  These are just for those who attend Sunday.

The Cattaraugus County Health Department will be hosting their Water Tasting Test in the lobby on Saturday during the Home Show.  Attendees can sample and vote for the best tasting municipal water in Cattaraugus County.

The food concession will be the Randy’s Up the River offering grilled chicken salad, pulled pork sandwiches, hillbilly hash, hotdogs, and more.
