Show some love on May 7 for Allegany State Park during the 5th annual “I Love My Park Day,” sponsored by State Parks and Parks and Trails New York.
The Friends of Allegany State Park will be spearheading this year’s event at Allegany State Park in cooperation with Park Staff. I Love My Park Day allows volunteers the opportunity to give back to the park they love by spending a day participating in various projects that improve and enhance the Allegany experience for visitors.
This year’s event will be held Saturday, May 7 in the Quaker Run Area. Volunteer projects will focus mainly on cabin trail clean up with some other small site improvement projects such as gardening, painting, and minor repairs.
For the fourth annual state- wide event last spring, 6,500 volunteers took part in over 200 cleanup, improvement and beautification projects at 95 state parks and historic sites, contributing 16,000 hours of volunteer service.
Check in/registration on May 7 is from 9-10 a.m. at the Quaker Picnic Shelter. Projects will be worked on from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Volunteers are asked to bring a snack, dress for the weather, and prepare to get dirty.
A volunteer picnic afterward at the Quaker Picnic Shelter will be offered for a nominal fee. Interested participants should pre-register for I Love My Park Day at www.ptny.org/ilovemypark. For more information, contact the Allegany State Park Recreation Department at (716) 354-9101 ext. 236.
