The West Valley Central School Board of Education approved fully funding a pre-merger study with both Ellicottville Central School and Springville-Griffith Institute.
The decision was made at the board’s May 9 meeting, after receiving a letter from ECS Superintendent Mark Ward in which the district refused to partially fund the study.
WVCS Superintendent Eric Lawton explained that a pre-merger study would research the best district for the school to merge or annex with, at a fraction of the cost of a full merger or annexation study. Lawton expects the study will cost less than $6,000. The study would report the financial and educational impact of entering into an annexation or merger with either district.
The ECS Board previously stated it was not interested in sharing the cost of the study and is only interested in annexation with WVCS.
