Essential Oils & Your Family’s Health

It seems that with each new season, there seems to be a new craz” or buzz word that comes with it (and, too often, it changes with the next season). However, one that I’ve been hearing about for a long time is “essential oils.”

Whether it an article, social media, or talking to a friend, it seemed that essential oils kept reappearing in my life, making me more curious about them. Initially, I thought the whole thing sounded like hocus pocus, but I soon realized how these oils can literally improve all aspects of your life.

After we had our sweet little boy last summer, I decided that it was time to take a new approach to my family’s health – a more natural approach. I wanted to makeover our home and health and rid it of the toxins that hide in our foods, drinks, medicines, and cleaning supplies. It really started to scare me that I couldn’t pronounce most of the ingredients on product labels and now I was going to use these them around our tiny baby? Clearly, the control freak was getting the best of me!

My need for change was somewhat met with organic food and all-natural cleaning supplies, but my budget couldn’t keep up and I still couldn’t read and/or pronounce some of the ingredients on the labels. I was determined to find a way to meet my family’s health needs and stay within a reasonable budget. This is when I was introduced to essential oils through a colleague at work and I realized that a tiny bottle of oil was the answer to my search.

Since being introduced to essential oils, I have realized that every aspect of our life has improved – mood, health, motivation, and overall wellness. One of the major areas I have noticed an improvement is in treating my seasonal allergies, which I get immunizations for monthly. The popular seasonal blend of lavender, peppermint, and lemon not only smells amazing, but helps ease sneezing, runny nose and eyes, and has really been aiding in keeping me feeling symptom-free. My love and interest in the essential oils has literally become an obsession. I am making my own cleaning products (not as time consuming as you might think), hand soaps, and am treating anything from a bruise, ear ache, or cold and flu symptoms with my oils.

One of the things that I love about oils is their versatility. Essential oils can be used three ways: aromatically, topically, and internally. When we use our oils aromatically, we either inhale or diffuse the oils in our home. Simply by breathing in the oils, our mood improves, the air is purified, and it supports breathing.

When essential oils are applied topically, one drop is extremely powerful and can service every cell in your body (which is why diluting oils for babies and children is a must and education is very important)!

Many essential oils can also be taken internally and can nourish your body in many ways, including the digestive system, mouth, throat, and liver.

There is so much to learn about essential oils and starting out on your own can be a daunting, overwhelming task.
