Springville Center for the Arts (SCA) will kick off summer with its annual Gala and Mini-Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 18. This year, County Executive Mark Poloncarz will be present to cut the ribbon on the Center’s newly-installed elevator at 6 p.m. After a year of community fundraising and volunteer labor, the Center will permanently reopen the Olmsted Gallery and Vacanti classroom spaces.
The event coincides with the opening reception of “A Special Moment,” a photographic gallery exhibit by View Finders. The exhibit, directed and curated by Bonita Chimes, shows photographs all taken through the lens. Established in 1994, View Finders has been an ongoing group of photographers, based both in Western New York and in California. This will be the group’s 15th consecutive year of exhibiting at SCA.
Musicians will play acoustically on the grounds as people mingle and try their hand at putt-putt. Teams compete for the coveted Coil-town Cup on a custom nine-hole course. Last year’s winners— Pat Rindfuss, Allison Duwe, Joan Vasiliauskas and Lynne Giroux— will not give up the cup easily.
The event will open with the old-time hammered dulcimer sounds of Partners In Time. LeeRon Zydeco will perform an upbeat, spicy mix of Zydeco, Cajun, Caribbean, Blues, Tex-Mex and New Orleans, pumping out of big box accordion. The Buffalo Tango Orkestra will bring Argentine tango with strings, piano, and upright bass led by bandoneon and vocals that rise up from a deep well of South American sorrow and soul.
Ed Gath will be serving up sweet or savory crepes from the Cruisin’ Crepes Food Truck. JoMo’s Meat Roasting will be donating pulled pork sliders. Sorrentos will provide fancy cheeses to go along with other hors d’oeuvres. Wine and beer will be served.
A basket raffle and silent auction includes BPO tickets, a Lake Erie sailboat cruise, a stay at Oasis B&B, a kayak, flatscreen TV, paintings, handmade local sausage and gift items from Rhapsody’s / Fresh, My Best Friend’s Closet, DonChelle, Nature’s Remedy and more.
Current sponsors include Springville Eye Care, Springville Pediatrics, Springville Door & Window, Homewear, Metro Kirsch, Timberbuit, & Springville Faculty Association.
The Gala starts promptly at 6 p.m. at 37 N Buffalo Street, Springville. The closing ceremony and award announcements begin at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are available pre-sale for $20 ($25 at the door) by calling (716) 592-9038 or online at SprinvilleArts.org. Tickets include food, drinks and mini-golf. Families can also try the course from 12-3 p.m. for $10 / group of four.
