SCA Summer Youth Workshops

The Springville Center for the Arts, in partnership with Springville Youth Incorporated, is offering a wide array of arts-oriented summer workshops for children of all ages.

For the littlest ones (ages 2-5 and grades K-2), there are the Summer Spark and Spark II workshops that nurture the creative sides of your children through painting, dance, theatrical storytelling, story making, acting and more. Workshops take place on Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-noon. July 5 – Aug. 9.

For kids going into grades 3-5 (July 18-22) or 6-8 (July 25-29), a variety of area visual artists will work with students in various media to create art projects.

For the musically inclined, there’s also a weekly children’s choir (ages 4 through 4th graders) that culminates in a performance on August 4. The choir meets Thursdays from 10-11 a.m., June 30 – Aug. 4.

Plus, kids in grades 3-8 can sign up for Musical Theater Camp with daily (M-F) rehearsals of “Singin’ in the Rain” from noon -3 p.m., June 27 – July 8.  Performances are on July 8 and 9 at 4 p.m. A second Musical Theater Camp runs from Aug. 1-12 (musical TBD).

Middle- and high school students have several choices of creative activities throughout the summer. On Saturdays, there will be a Saturday Improv workshop from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. from June 25 – Aug. 6. Or, sign the kids up for the Saturday Morning Playwriting workshop from 10 a.m. – Noon, July 2-Aug. 6.

Two Shakespeare workshops are being offered in July and again in August to students entering grades 7-12. And students in grades 6-12 can sign up for SCA’s “Technical Theater Camp, where they’ll learn about behind-the-scenes theater production.

How about learning to play the ukulele or the fiddle? Programs for each are available daily July 25-29. SCA Director Seth Wochensky will teach the uke, while Heather Pennington will instruct two levels of fiddle classes.

For budding film makers, there will be a Stop-Motion Animation workshop daily from July 11-15 and a Short Film Camp daily from July 18-22. Both are open to Middle- and High School students.
