Two Ellicottville Central School students recently received the Paul and Mary Janowicz Memorial Scholarship through the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.
The Janowicz’s son-in-law and daughter, Paul and Elizabeth Hanson, established the Paul and Mary Janowicz Memorial Fund with the foundation in 2014.
Each year, the fund makes possible a scholarship for students at Ellicottville Central School, where Ms. Janowicz served as a bus driver. The Paul and Mary Janowicz Memorial Scholarship is given to graduating seniors who demonstrated academic excellence and plan to attend a 2- or 4-year college.
Kaleigh Hunt and Max Paddock each received a $500 scholarship.
Hunt will be attending Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts to study Chemical Engineering. Paddock will pursue a degree in animation at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan.
“Mary got to know many of the students while working in the Ellicottville Central School District,” said CRCF Executive Director Karen Niemic Buchheit. “I think she’d be very proud of the scholarship recipients and their impressive accomplishments.”
The Paul and Mary Janowicz Memorial Fund also makes possible annual contributions to the Great Valley Volunteer Fire Company, Olean Public Library and the Marie Lorenz Dialysis Center Fund at the Olean General Hospital Foundation.
Donations to the Paul and Mary Janowicz Memorial Fund can be made at the CRCF, 301 North Union Street, Suite 203, or online at cattfoundation.org.
