The quilt was made by volunteers in California, who donate their time and materials for the Quilts of Honor organization to make these quilts for service members and/or their family. The quilt has a patriotic red, white, and blue color scheme with American flag pattern on the front and a complimenting pattern of red, white, and blue fireworks on the back. A sewn tag on the back of the quilt authenticates the Quilted Hugs of Gratitude and acknowledges those who were involved with its creation and the name of the Executive Director of Quilts of Honor. The quilt was presented with a storage bag showing the Marine Corps insignia along with a framed Certificate of Appreciation/Honor to the family of Alan Brown in honor of him. The certificate listed the presentation date of the quilt and the name of the presenter, Martha Levin along with an American Legion coin she was given and passed along to the family.
