Things are heating up and it’s time to cool off! Take a trip to Holiday Valley’s pool complex for an easy getaway that’s pretty much in your own backyard.

The complex includes three pools— a kiddie pool, great for the younger set to splash around in, a lap pool, where you can challenge your friends to a race or get in a real workout, and an activity pool, where you can show off your serious diving board moves and your not-so-serious waterslide moves. Guests are also welcome to bring floats and noodles into the pools.

Forgot your towel? No problem! Towels are available to rent for $1.

Those staying at Tamarack Club can enjoy the neighboring pools and hot tubs that are reserved for guests only.

What to do when you need a break from the water? There’s way more than just swimming at the pools, where a variety of games await on the deck. Choose from foosball, ping pong, giant Jenga, Connect Four, a putting green and Cornhole.

You’ll surely work up an appetite after all this fun. Grab a table by the outdoor Cabana Bar and order up your favorite poolside fare. You can even add in a cocktail (or mocktail) to really give you that I’m-on-vacation feel. Poolside service is also available for drinks and food— get everything you crave delivered right to your lounge chair, just like on a cruise!

You can also bring in coolers, just no glass.

The kiddies will have a blast on the playground on the east end of the Creekside Lodge, as they wait that 20 minutes after eating to get back into the water.

It’s not too late to sign up your little ones for swim lessons this summer. You can still get in on the Mommy and Me swim lessons for ages 6 months to 2 years for $50.  They’re held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-6 p.m. Private swim lessons through the lifeguards are also available.

Monday through Thursday, admission is $10 adults, $7 ages 5-17, $4 under 4. Friday through Sunday, admission is $12 adults, $8 ages 5-17, $5 under 4.

Did someone say pool party? What better place to host a summertime celebration than at the pools overlooking the slopes? Pricing for groups is as follows: up to 20 adults and children, $80; 21-30 adults and children, $110; 31-40 adults and children, $140; 41-50 adults and children, $170; 51-60 adults and children, $200. Call (716) 699-3909 to make a group reservation.

Weekends also bring a chance to help a local charity. Every Saturday and Sunday of the summer, the Holiday Valley pool lifeguards host the Ducky Derby. Numbered rubber ducks are sold for $1 each. The ducks are sent down the slide at the activity pool into the water. Kids sit on the edge of the pool kicking their feet to send the ducks across the pool to the finish line. The owner of the first place duck receives half of the money in the form of a Holiday Valley gift card and the other half is donated to a charity.

Hours are noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to 8 p.m. Fridays, 11a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. In July and August one pool and the Cabana Bar are open until 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. Night pool admission from 5 p.m. to close is only $6 weekdays and $7 weekends. (The upper deck off the Cabana Bar is open to relax before the pools open in the morning.)

Don’t miss out on the fun that is Holiday Valley pools. You’re sure to have a blast and beat the heat in the process!
